Perched upon the banks of Rivers Gambheri and Berach, the city of Chittorgarh boasts of a glorious Rajput history. Chittorgarh used to be the capital of the Sisodia Dynasty of Mewar. The most alluring factor of this city is the Chittorgarh Fort. Famous for the Jauhar that Rani Padmini and Rani Karnavati underwent during siege, the Chittorgarh Fort has seen a lot of valiant battles. The fort is the largest one in India, and attracts tourist in a large number throughout the year. Owing to the battles and wars the city has seen, some of the warriors even have their statues installed in the fort by Emperor Akbar.

CHITTORGARH

The Chittor Fort or Chittorgarh is one of the largest forts in India. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The fort was the capital of Mewar and is located in the present-day town of Chittor. It sprawls over a hill 180 m in height spread over an area of 280 ha above the plains of the valley drained by the Berach River.
RANA KUMBHA PALACE

Rana Kumbha Palace Chittorgarh. Rana Kumbha Palace is situated inside the Chittorgarh Fort in Rajasthan. It is located near the Vijay Stambha close to the entrance gate. The ruins of the once famous palace have the temple of Lord Shiva, Zanana mahal, Diwan -e -aam, along with a stable for horses.
FATEH PRAKASH PALACE

Erection of this palace was during the reign of Rana Fateh Singh. It lies within the Chittorgarh Fort. The palace served as Rana’s residence. Rana Fateh Singh intended to showcase his inclination towards art and culture through this construction. Chittorgarh lies on the Golden Quadrilateral Highway system.
The palace is studded with numerous corridors and pillars built in Rajasthani style. It is beautifully decorated with wall paintings showcasing legends from Rajasthan belonging to the 17th. and 19th.centuries. In 1968, a large portion of Fateh Prakash Palace was converted into a museum.
VIJAY STAMBH

Known by the name of Victory Fort, this huge tower was constructed between 1442 and 1449 AD by Rana Kumbha. It was built in the admiration of Rana Kumbha’s victory over Mahmud Khilji. The 10 foot long tower is made by the combination of two rocks- red sandstone and marble. There are nine stories in this fort with each of the stories having its own individual balcony facing outwards. As one goes through the staircase one meets with an alternate view of either the central chamber or the adjoining gallery.
